How you can make use of this blog

Please read it carefully and the next time you visit the library you will surely be able to make better use of the resources.

If you are searching for information on the Web, you can start by using the "Search engines and directories" section in the right panel, which lists all the major search tools on the Internet. You can also browse through the useful links gathered and organised by the librarian.

The "Have you read the latest?" section tells you about the articles in the current periodicals available in the library which are worth a read. Keep checking it regularly so that you do not miss anything important. It will also help you in doing some selective reading.

The General knowledge quiz featured here is a good tool to stay updated on the current affairs.

The Downloads section tries to bring all useful downloads available online at one place so that you do not have to hunt for them.

Library FAQs
1. Am I a member of the library?
Yes, if you are a student, teacher, or other staff of the Vidyalaya, you already have a membership in the library.

2. Can I issue books?
You can if you are a student of Classes VI-XII.

3. When can I issue books from the library?
The library functions on all working days from 8.30am to 2.40pm. You can issue books during library periods. You can issue books during other periods too if it is urgent and you have obtained permission from the teacher. Fiction books are issued only during library periods.

4. How many books can I issue?
01 book for students of Classes VI-IX and 02 books for students of Classes X-XII.

5. How long can I keep a book with me?
02 weeks. If you need the book even after that you can re-issue it. A book can be re-issued twice at the maximum.

I. About the library

The library is situated on the second floor of the school building. Earlier it was on the ground floor, but it was shifted up due to constant termite problems and sinking-in of the floor in this area. The library room is properly furnished, with sufficient seating facility for students and teachers. Every effort is made to make the room have an atmosphere amicable for reading and reflecting. Here is some detailed information on the library:

a. Total number of books: There are at present more than 11000 books in the library. New books are added to the stock every year and outdated/damaged books are weeded out.

c. How books are arranged in your library: It is very important for the users to know how books are arranged in the library. The books in the library are kept in 28 shelves. For easy location and to save the time of the user, the books are arranged subject-wise/content-wise in the following manner:

Besides the above, subscription order has already been sent for “Science Reporter” and some educational periodicals published by NCERT.

II. Library functioning:

a. Books circulation: Presently, a card system is being followed to circulate books to both Teachers and students. Books-issue cards of students are housed in a specially built box for good organization and easy location. Steps towards library automation have already been taken. Once automation is over, circulation will be carried out using a bar-coding system. To the students from classes VI to IX, one book at a time is issued. To the students from classes X to XII two books at a time are issued. The students can keep an issued book with them for two weeks.

b. Library timing: Library is open on all working days from 8.30 am to 2.40 pm.

c. Besides reading: Besides providing reading material to the students, the students are given assignments like writing book reviews, collecting facts, etc. Students are asked to maintain a library note-book which they should bring to the library during library periods.

d. Library automation: Steps have already been taken to purchase a standard library automation software.
